NAVIEXPRESS

A leap forward in technology and passenger comfort on the public transport network

In partnership with the Lucerne-based constructor Shiptec, CGN has begun building a new type of boat at its shipyard: the NAVIEXPRESS. The NAVIEXPRESS represents the ambition of providing enhanced and more efficient cross-border services between Switzerland and France, with greater comfort and a significant reduction in the impact of public transport on the environment.

This new arrival will establish CGN as a major player in the shift away from making journeys by car, and actively help to achieve the objectives set by the Paris Conference of 2015 on climate change (COP 21) and the energy strategy for 2050 adopted in 2011 by the Federal Council. The boats will consume 35 to 40% less energy than the current ones (as tests have demonstrated).

The development of the new boats also constitutes part of the partnership signed between the bodies organising public transport in the Canton of Vaud and in France. It is founded on a cooperation agreement between the Canton of Vaud and the inter-municipality structures ‘Communauté de communes pays d’Evian - vallée d’Abondance’ (CCPEVA) and Thonon Agglomération, confirming their desire to jointly finance and develop public transport on Lake Geneva.
